Frequently Asked Questions

Below, the current Board has attempted to answer some of the frequently asked questions by its membership. If you cannot find an answer below, please feel free to contact one of the current officers or directors.

How can I become a member of the WilCo Bar?

Licensed attorneys can print out, complete, and mail in the member application available under the “Forms/Documents” tab or apply online. The membership year runs from June 1 to May 31, and members are required to pay their dues yearly to remain a member in good standing.

What are the benefits of joining the WilCo Bar aka WCBA?

As a member of the WilCo Bar, you will have the opportunity to meet and network with local attorneys, local judges, and attend low cost Continuing Legal Education. Membership in the WCBA is also a prerequisite to being on the appointment list in Williamson County. For an extra $10.00, members are also provided a badge, which allows easy access to the Williamson County Courthouse. Eligibility for a badge is left to the discretion of the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.

How long does it take to process my member application?

It will usually take between 1 and 2 weeks for your application to be processed and instructions for obtaining a badge to be returned to you in the mail. However, the WBCA is run by volunteer attorneys with full time practices and sometimes the processing may be a little delayed. If you ordered a badge, and have not received confirmation within three weeks of submitting your application, please contact info@wilcobar.com.

Who can I contact if I have a question about my membership status?

The Secretary of the WCBA processes the membership applications and generally maintains information related to membership. The current Secretary’s information can be located under the “Directory Membership” tab.

Why am I not receiving email communications related to the Bar activities?

You may not have renewed your membership. The Bar’s fiscal year runs from June 1 through May 31. Every year you are required to renew your membership by completing a new application and paying your dues. If we do not receive your new application and dues by October 1 of the new fiscal year, you are removed from our email list. If you completed your member application, we may not have your correct email address. To verify that we have your correct email address, email your verification request to info@wilcobar.com.

What if I lost my badge? Can I get a replacement badge?

If you have lost your badge, you can obtain a replacement by mailing your request, along with $10.00, and a self addressed stamped envelope to Williamson County Bar Association, P.O. Box 2368, Round Rock, Texas 78680.

What do my dues pay for?

The dues collected by the WBCA are all allocated towards the goals of the WBCA, which include funding 10-12 CLEs provided throughout the fiscal year, maintaining the membership lists, maintaining the website and online directory, facilitating settlement week, and providing networking and social events for the membership.

Can I inspect the books and records of the WBCA?

The financial records of the WBCA are available for inspection and copying by any member in good standing of the WBCA. To inspect the books or records, please contact the current Treasurer of the WBCA in writing and make your request. The Treasurer’s contact information can be found under the “Directory Membership” tab.

What do the officers and directors of the WBCA do?

The officers and directors of the WBCA are local attorneys who volunteer their time to plan and coordinate all the Bar events throughout the year. The discussion and planning of events takes place at the Board meetings which are held the 1st Thursday of every month. Some of the events which the Board plans, include monthly meetings, 10-12 CLEs a fiscal year, Holiday parties, membership drive, and settlement week. The Board also provides and coordinates volunteer/community outreach opportunities such as Wills for Heroes, Now that You’re 18, Habitat for Humanity, and the J.B. Brookshire Scholarship. The Board alternates years in providing a Bench Bar Conference or End of the Year Party for its membership. The officers and directors easily provide over 50 hours of volunteer service each fiscal year.

When does the WBCA meet?

The WBCA meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month (except during June and July). Meeting times and locations can be found under the “CLE/Upcoming Events” tab. Because the WBCA covers multiple cities, the Board tries to vary the meeting locations by rotating around the County to accommodate members in each city.

When is the Bar's fiscal year?

The Bar's fiscal year runs from June 1st to May 31st. While the new fiscal year starts in June, the Bar is dormant over the summer months, and then officially kicks off its membership drive in August. To be a member in good standing, members are required to submit a new application each year and pay the requisite dues amount. If a person joins in the middle of the fiscal year, dues are not prorated.
